The Institute

Founded in 1888, the Roman Institute of the Görres Society (RIGG) is the well-known academic centre and foreign institute of the Bonn-based Görres Society.
Donations And Foundation

Johan Ickx (* 1962), in office since 11 October 2024, is a Belgian historian and has worked as an archivist in Rome for decades. He is responsible for the historical archives of the Department for Relations with States of the Secretariat of State of the Holy See. In recent years, he has made a name for himself primarily through his publications in the field of papal history in the first half of the 20th century.

‘The Vice Director represents the Director in all matters relating to the Institute. He is appointed for three years by the Executive Board of the Görres-Gesellschaft on the recommendation of the Director’ (Statutes § 11). He works on an honorary basis.
