After speaking at the "Giovanni Battista de Rossi" conference just a few weeks ago, Fabrizio Bisconti (* 1955) passed away completely unexpectedly after a short illness. It hits us all like a blow. We are losing an extremely competent and lovable colleague and teacher.

Since 1989 he was librarian, then professor of art history, then professor of iconography at the Pontifical Institute of Christian Archaeology. He was also an officer of the Pontificia Commissione di Archeologia Sacra for decades and did endless work for the preservation of catacombs throughout Italy. He was a Master of the Collegium Cultorum Martyrum. In this latter capacity he was also at Campo Santo Teutonico several times each year for the annual meeting and procession through the Vatican Gardens on the Feast of the Protomartyrs. The Roman Institute and the whole Campo Santo lose a true friend who never lost his cheerfulness and always knew how to balance out when the waters blew up. Christian archaeologists, including those from German-speaking countries, owe him a great deal.

The exequia will be held on 24 March at 10 a.m. in S. Sebastiano flm.
