Ignacio García Lascurain Bernstorff new member of the directory board of the RIGG
The President of the Görres-Gesellschaft, Prof Dr Bernd Engler, has appointed Dr Ignacio Lascurain Bernstorff to the Board of Directors of the Roman Institute of the Görres-Gesellschaft.
García Lascurain Bernstorff, a native of Mexico, was a RIGG scholarship holder from 2016 to 2018 and published his dissertation ‘The Athletes and the Vicar of Christ: Investigation into the Semantics of the Relationship between the Order of St John and the Holy See (1393-1503)’ in 2021, which he submitted to Prof. Dr Claudia Märtl in Munich. He is working towards his habilitation in history at the University of Potsdam under Prof Dr Thomas Brechenmacher. He is currently studying theology for the diocese of Regensburg.
Prof Dr Johannes Grohe will remain on the Board of Directors as outgoing Vice Director. Dr Johan Ickx has been appointed to the Board of Directors as the new Vice Director.
Konrad Bestle has left the Board of Directors, having stepped down as Rector of Campo Santo Teutonico in 2024 and thus also as co-editor of the Römische Quartalschrift.
The Board of Directors, which is chaired by the President of the Görres Society, has the task of promoting the academic work of the Roman Institute and exercising general supervision.
