Constantian Basilica in Ostia antica

The German Archaeological Institute is excavating in Ostia Antica. The very extensive ancient city area now lies beneath a meadow. Only the bishop's complex on the outskirts of the city is being excavated. Only this complex is worth excavating because the ancient city was abandoned and plundered, so that most traces have been lost.

8-11 October: importante conference on the Fuggerei in Augsburg

A major conference on the history of housing foundations entitled ‘Foundations as role models: the Fuggerei in context’ is taking place at the Augsburg City Archives. The range of lectures covers topics from the Fugger foundations in Augsburg to similar phenomena of poor relief and social welfare in Europe.
