The German Priests’ College at the Campo Santo Teutonico in the Vatican has, since its foundation 150 years ago (1876), provided accommodation for hundreds of priests from many countries. This volume presents notable figures – by no means exclusively German – who were shaped by this place and who, in turn, left their mark on the seminary: historians, archaeologists, church musicians, social teachers, theologians, pastoral workers, diplomats, missionaries and a future Pope. They all had something to say and have left their mark in their respective fields, both in Italy and in their home countries. The College thus proves to be a place where the major questions of global and German-speaking Catholicism were debated and further developed within a vibrant culture of debate.
