History of a unique institution
The Roman Institute of the Görres Society is the oldest foreign institute of this Catholic academic association, which is based in Germany. Founded in 1888, it quickly developed into a distinctive institution: it became a vibrant centre for historical and archaeological research and played a part in the great academic boom of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This study offers a comprehensive history of German-Roman figures and institutions from around 1880 to 1950.
