Die Anfänge der römischen Inquisition
Herman H. Schwedt | 2013
Kardinäle und Konsultoren 1542 bis 1600
Supplement volume 62 of the Roman Quarterly
The Roman Inquisition stands for a new era of the papacy and Catholicism. For later Roman authorities, the first congregation, founded in 1542 and also called Sanctum Officium, was to become a model. Based on new sources, the volume presents more than three hundred profiles of its members, most of whom also belonged to the Index Congregation (founded in 1571). They illustrate the hard core of the Roman Counter-Reformation up to 1600.
