This volume relates the Second Vatican Council (1962-1965) to the Council of Trent (1545-1563), to whose liturgical reform it was linked and without which it cannot be understood. The contributions by representatives of different disciplines and approaches - art and music historians, liturgical scholars, church historians, fundamental theologians and dogmatists - attempt to do justice to the liturgy as a comprehensive cultural phenomenon and present central reform concerns of the two councils with meaningful examples.
