Christian sites at the mouth of the Tiber: Ostia and Porto

For the Holy Year 2025, the Ostia Antica Archaeological Park has published a booklet entitled ‘Itinerari cristiani alla foce del Tevere’, in which four ‘routes’ to the sites of early Christian Ostia and Porto are described on the basis of current archaeological research:

  1. The city of Ostia: oratory of St Cyriacus, oratory of the Baths of Mithras, so-called Christian basilica, Constantinian basilica
  2. The suburb of Ostia: church of St Sebastian, church of St Herculanus, Christian basilica of Pianabella
  3. The city of St Gregory: Church of St Aurea, Bishop's Palace of Ostia
  4. Portus and the Isola Sacra: Basilica of Porto, Episcopal Palace of Porto, Basilica of St Hippolytus.

The book is edited by Dario Daffara, with contributions from Matteo Braconi and Roberta Ruotolo, among others.

The book is accompanied by guided tours organised by the Parco Archeologico.
