Today, 29 June, is the Feast of Saints Peter and Paul, which has been celebrated in Rome since at least the 2nd century. Since the Reformation, there has been a debate as to whether Peter was ever in Rome at all. Fifteen years ago, the Roman Institute and the Classical Studies Section of the Görres Society organised a conference on this topic in Rome and Freiburg.

These conferences gave rise to one of the Institute’s best-selling books, the volume "Peter and Paul in Rome" (Herder, 2012). The volume is apparently now out of print and cannot be found even on the second-hand market.

At the same time, a supplementary volume entitled “Martyr. The Death and Tomb of Peter in Rome” (Schnell & Steiner, 2nd ed. 2015) was published, which is still available in bookshops. An Italian edition is also available.
