Prof. Dr Johan Ickx, Head of the Historical Archives of the Secretariat of State and Deputy Director of the Roman Institute of the Görres Society, was presented with the Order of Merit of the Republic of Hungary (Croce di Cavaliere dell’Ordine al Merito Ungherese) by Ambassador Péter Kweck on 26 March.
In his laudatory address, the Ambassador paid tribute to Dr Ickx’s achievements in the field of digitising and publishing all documents relating to the fate of Jews and baptised Jews during the Second World War, and for his research on Pope Benedict XV and Pope Pius XII, which has been translated into many languages.
