Since September 2024, Dr Florian Pichler has been studying at the Pontifical Lateran University for a degree in both law. In December 2023, he completed his doctorate in Vienna on clerical confidentiality and the secrecy of the confessional in canon law and in Austrian and German religious law.

He has already gained academic professional experience as a junior researcher both as a study assistant at the Institute for Church History and as a university assistant (research assistant) at the Institute for Canon and Religious Law at the University of Vienna. He is now a member of the Section for Law and Political Science.

The article ‘Die Rahmenordnungen der österreichischen Bischöfe von 2020 bis 2023 und das Erkenntnis des Verfassungsgerichtshofs vom 30. Juni 2022’ in the Archiv für katholisches Kirchenrecht (190/1) provides an insight into his research activities. It explains the bishops' legislative acts during the 2020-2023 health crisis in Austria.
