The General Assembly in Aachen went very well overall, both in terms of content and organisation. Since the founding of the Görres Society in 1876, the General Assembly has not only been a kind of trans-disciplinary congress at which lectures are held in the science sections, but has also always been associated with an accumulation of meetings of the various bodies - above all the Board of Directors, Section Heads and the Finance Committee.

The meeting of the RIGG Board of Directors also took place. The printed activity report of the last eleven years with the forewords by President Engler and Ambassador Kotsch was generally appreciated. The Roman Institute is widely known in the Görres Society and does not have to complain about a lack of attention. The activity report is now also advertised via Amazon and Lehmanns Media

This year's general theme, "Optimising the Human Being", was extremely fortunate and gave all sections plenty of ideas. The History and Jurisprudence Sections traditionally stand out for their strength and liveliness, but Classics and Art History as well as the Christian Orient also had notable lectures and panel discussions.

The total attendance was around 330 registered participants, but in real terms there were considerably fewer present. The older generation, which had always been among the most loyal visitors, was noticeably absent. Nevertheless, it was possible to pick up the thread of the pre-Corona era, so that the tradition is not broken. Also, very active leadership personalities have been added in some sections.

On Saturday, the now traditional but unofficial Roman meeting took place, this time in the highly recommended restaurant Zum Wehrhaften Schmied. We were 16 "Romans", that is active or former RIGG members, including a number of assistants. Next year the Roman meeting will of course take place again.

Everyone is aware of the great jubilee coming up for the Society in 2026: 150 years of the Görres Society. The RIGG is also already preparing for this important date, also because in the same year the Priests' College at Campo Santo Teutonico was founded, where the Roman Institute is located.

In a few days' time, President Engler will no longer be Rector of the University of Tübingen and will take over as President of the Global Ethic Foundation Hans Küng.

In 2023, the General Assembly will take place in Tübingen from 22 to 24 September, in 2024 in Würzburg.
